Fun and lively sessions with singing, storytelling and toys. Enjoy bonding with your children over stories and play, at these sessions run by Bookstart.

Term time only. For ages 5 and under. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by parents or carers at all times.

What is Bookstart?

Bookstart is a national programme giving packs of free books to every child to encourage parents and carers to share books with children from an early age. The Bookstart sessions are interesting and stimulating workshops, designed to support and encourage parents, carers and young children to enjoy reading and sharing books together. Research has shown that children who look at books from an early age learn to read faster and do better at school. Reading books with your child also help them to develop their speaking, listening and concentration skills with understanding.

All sessions are free and library members may borrow books used in the sessions as well as the Storysack Collection or from a selection of children’s book in other languages.
