HALEY MCCGEE PRESENTS I’m Doing This for You

Haley McGee – I’m Doing This for You, Haley’s new performance.

A woman travels halfway around the world to give the man she loves the thing she thinks he wants the most. He’s an aspiring stand-up comedian and today is his birthday. The audience is her gift to him and it’s a surprise!

Blending storytelling, live-art and improvisation, Haley McGee delivers a ‘spellbinding performance’ in I’m Doing This for You. Filled with surprising turns from the hilarious to the humiliating, this show delves deep into just how far a person will go to not be alone.

Live-art and improvisation, this performance is a big romantic gesture made by a woman for a man. He’s an aspiring standup comedian. Today is his birthday. The audience is her gift to him. It’s a surprise.

Over the course of the evening the event evolves from an attempt to rekindle romance to an exorcism of that love. And the only way out is through. Uncomfortable, funny and a little bit sad, the show is filled with surprising turns as it revels in the extremes a person will go to in the name of erasing her loneliness.

“You get comedy and cake. I get to correct a mistake.”

“We will sing. And eat cake. And go home. It’s gonna be really good.”

This work was developed in residence at the Battersea Arts Centre (London UK) and the National Theatre School of Canada, workshopped at Theatre Passe Muraille’s BUZZ Festival, and supported in part by the Canada Council for the Arts.   I’m Doing This for You premiered in the fall of 2015, presented at DaPoPo Theatre’s Live-In Festival (Halifax, Canada), TheatreDiscounter (Berlin, Germany), The Basement (Brighton, UK), followed by a sold-out pop-up run in Toronto at Passe Muraille, Storefront & Videofag.
