Rotherhithe and Bermondsey History Society Talk

The Society gives a warm welcome to Bermondsey Beat, the team behind many of the music events in Bermondsey including the popular Bermondsey Carnival in Southwark park with famous singers such as Chas & Dave, Rebecca Ferguson, Paul Young and many many more.

Today the talk of this month will be focused on the work of Bermondsey Beat in the community.

About The Rotherhithe & Bermondsey Local History Society

The Rotherhithe & Bermondsey Local History Society’s aim is to encourage interest in the history of Rotherhithe, Bermondsey, the surrounding area, Docklands and the River Thames.

It was established in 1994 in the days of the London Docklands Development Corporation (L.D.D.C.). This quango, established in 1981 to regenerate the disused docks, sought to engage the local community by funding local history lectures.  Diana Rimel of Goldsmiths College organised these in the former Dock Offices on Surrey Quays Road and in 1994, when the L.D.D.C. withdrew, Time & Talents stepped in and re-packaged the talks as its local history group.

The Rotherhithe & Bermondsey Local History Society aim is to share the history of Rotherhithe, Bermondsey and the surrounding area through regular Speaker-led meetings (open to all guests) and twice-yearly historical walks (members only).

The RBHS is a local history group encouraging a shared interest in the history of the local communities of Rotherhithe and Bermondsey and surrounding areas.
