Barlas Tan ÖzemekBarlas Tan Özemek

The nephew of Turkish pop legend Bülent Ortaçgil, Barlas hTan Özemek as carved out a fine reputation as a singer-songwriter, performer and arranger. Playing the guitar from an early age, the talented young musician has arranged and mixed the music of Turkey’s new contemporary voices such as Yasemin Mori and Gaye Su Akyol.

The city of Istanbul inherits its name from the Greek “Eis t?n polin” meaning ‘into the city’. Born in Istanbul, Barlas’ music is a call into this evolving metropolis. Through his guitar, he reflects on Anatolian culture and folk traditions of storytelling, like those of Asik Veysel, whilst blending them with contemporary frictions & expressions of living in Turkey in what are now volatile times.
