Spit & Sawdust Music – The Brothers Ignatius Ska Band

The Brothers Ignatius Big Band

The Spit and Sawdust and Superglad present The Brothers Ignatius Ska Big Band. Live music from talented musicians every Wednesday. Admission is free.

From the Superglad and The Spit and Sawdust

Now we don’t mean Two-Tone (as lovely as it is) or that punk/ska stuff (as rubbish as it is) we mean the real original Jamaican Ska Music best exemplified by the likes of The Skatalites, among others.

We have put these guys on before (previously at The Glad) and they are superb & tore the house down. They are really, really brilliant musicians and genuinely into the music of original Ska and Jamaican jazz.

They are also playing the London Ska Festival 2017 as a 17 piece huge, massive big band (recommended) and this night is the warm up for the smaller 6 piece heart of the band (and actually my preferred band….)

If you like THIS type of music you can’t go wrong and also they rarely play anywhere (either too busy or too lazy?) so it’s a double bonus and you will miss this at your peril.

It’s in a great, friendly pub which has a fine selection of beverages and it’s FREE to get in (did I mention that?)

I will be there to protect you if any nasty Greasers, Hells Angels or Trad Jazzers turn up looking for trouble.

It’s a very pub easy to find (10mins from tube) and it’s not a late one – expect two performances at around 8pm and 9pm respectively.

I promise you will have a great night, hear some super rare music and be home before the last tube.

Oh, dogs are welcome too….

What more do you actually want?

About the Spit and Sawdust

This building has been keeping people refreshed since 1856.  In its everlasting pursuit to serve drinks, this indestructible piece of architecture survived two bombings in the Blitz of WWII.

In August 2016 Ron Howard lookalike (Matt), speccy little git (Andy) and Jesus impersonator (Sean) got the keys to the premises and closed up shop for a refurb.  Like an ugly caterpillar metamorphosing into a beautiful butterfly the pub reopened in September as the Spit and Sawdust, a traditional London Boozer with a contemporary twist.

The Beer selection  with 20 lines in total and a heavy focus on the Craft Beer market.  Keeping things craft and independent we also offer different Street Food Pop Ups at the weekend, as well as Pie Minister.
