Hanitra

Hanitra is a true icon in Madagascar – after her debut with the group Lolo Sy Ny Tariny, Hanitra quickly chose to move away from her island, to build her career. Invited to many festivals all over the world, Hanitra has found the recipe for a refined and catchy world music that sails between folk at the edge of skin and more rhythmic pieces. His third album Lasa released in October 2015 is a tribute to the singer Lhasa De Sela.

Hanitra is a French composer-songwriter born in Madagascar. She begins at the age of 7 to become interested in music. In 1979, she joined the band Lolo sy ny tariny, which became one of the most popular musical ensembles on the island. The group decides to come to France for the recording of her first album. Leaving her native island in 1980, Hanitra left a whole generation hungry. Thousands of nostalgic fans will wonder for years about the reasons for her departure.

Despite all their assets Lolo sy ny tariny does not pursue their career long. and eventually ended their musical career. This is how Hanitra finds herself in western France where she continues to sing.

In 1997, after more than 15 years of absence and without any promotion, she made an unexpected return on the Malagasy stage by a series of concerts. The enthusiastic reception of the media and the public encourages her to record her first solo album.

While recognizing the artistic quality of this album, no French label will accept to distribute it. On release in France, in 1998 in the circuit FNAC under the label “self-produced” the record knows however the success by not yet benefiting from any media coverage. The sales will lead to the signature of a distribution license for the whole world.

In 2005, Hanitra left Brittany for the island of Reunion and in early 2012, she released a new album: “Any aminay”

Hanitra is designated to open the first Indian Ocean Music Market, in front of more than 100 programmers from all over the world. Everything accelerated then: it occurs successively in France, Madagascar, Reunion Island, Zanzibar, USA, Australia or India.
