Southwark Fireworks Night 2016 is back for another explosive evening of light, sound and family entertainment. The event, named by visitlondon.com as one of the best displays in the capital, is one of the few free displays taking place in London on the night itself.

Due to its huge popularity in recent years, the event will be ticketed once again to help control numbers and ensure everyone can enjoy the event safely

Tickets are free and will be released to local residents on the 3 October 2016 before going on general release 1 week later.


Important Information

Fireworks Night is always an exciting night but we encourage you to take advantage of this free event and leave the fireworks to those specially trained to handle them. Fireworks are a cause of serious fires and injuries every year when not used responsibly and can be very dangerous to the user and others around them.

We are expecting large numbers of people this evening so arrive early to avoid the long queues and last entry time at the gates is 6.30pm. The event has a limited capacity and once we’ve reached it, we’ve reached it and will have to turn people away.

Disabled access

Blue badge parking, and a drop-off/pick-up point is available on site via the entrance on Hawkstone Road.

There will be a viewing area reserved for those who need it. Southwark Park is a combination of large expanses of grass with tarmac and paved paths.

There are no sheltered areas for the audience and the weather and ground conditions may be variable (it is often drizzly and soggy).

Accessible toilets will be available on site, all of which will be signposted.

Please check the weather forecast and wear appropriate warm clothes and shoes.
Sparklers are allowed under the supervision of an adult. Please note that sparkler bins will be provided.

Getting There

We are asking all our patrons not to travel by car if possible. Southwark Park has brilliant access to public transport and it will be much easier to get to and from the event as there is very limited parking in the local area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Southwark Fireworks Night is being ticketed to ensure that we continue to produce a safe and enjoyable event for all. Over the last few years, attendance has dramatically increased and it has become untenable to organise a free non-ticketed event. This has been agreed following consultation with London’s emergency services, Transport for London, surrounding London boroughs and other various key stakeholders.

Tickets will be available to book from Monday 3 October. Due to previous attendance records at this event, high demand is expected.

1. When and where is Southwark’s fireworks display happening this year?
This year’s event will take place on Thursday 5 November in Southwark Park, London SE16.

2. What are the opening times?
Doors will open at 5pm and last entry into the event site will be strictly 6.30pm to ensure that everyone is on site and in position for the main fireworks display.

There will be a strict no admittance policy to the event site after 6.30pm.

3. How much are tickets?
Tickets are free but must be booked in advance and are subject to availability and our terms and conditions.

4. Do I have to pay a booking fee?
No, booking fees will not be applied to any tickets booked. Tickets are provided electronically in your booking confirmation email, but if you do request your tickets to be posted there will be a charge of £1.

5. Do I need to book a ticket for my children?
Yes. Everyone attending must have a ticket, so that we can manage capacity of the event safely.

6. How many tickets can I book?
A maximum of six tickets can be booked per order.

7. Where can I get a ticket from?
Tickets are available to buy online via the ticketing link on this website or by calling 020 8050 1915. Calls will be charged at normal landline rates.

If you do not have access to the internet, please visit any Southwark library where staff will be able to help you book your ticket.

8. How do I get my tickets?
You can print your booking confirmation email and barcode at home.
You can present your booking confirmation email on your smartphone or tablet.
If you book over the phone you can either have tickets emailed to you, or tickets can be posted to you first class at a charge of £1 per order.
You must present your ticket at the gate to gain entry into the event.

9. When should I expect to receive my ticket?
If you do not receive your tickets either via email or in the post please contact Red61 or call 020 8050 1915.

10. Why have you started to ticket the event this year?
Over the last few years, attendance to the fireworks has dramatically increased. To ensure that we continue to produce a safe and enjoyable event for all it has become necessary to ticket the event to manage these numbers. This has been agreed following consultation with London’s emergency services, Transport for London, surrounding London boroughs and other various key stakeholders.

11. What does a ticket get me access to?
You will only be able to access the event site with a valid ticket. Expect to find food traders and bars all within Southwark Park, as well as some special fire performances to get you in the mood.

The main fireworks display will last for 15 minutes and be choreographed to music playing all around the events area, immersing you in a musical dance of colours and explosions.

12. Will there be CCTV in operation at the event?
Yes. This will be operated by the Metropolitan Police and will be in place to help us control crowds and antisocial behaviour.

13. Will the event be filmed or photographed?
Yes. We will be filming and photographing inside the event to capture the atmosphere and entertainment to share on social media, and in future promotion of this or similar events by Southwark Council. Please alert the photographer or filmmaker if you would prefer not to be included. Filming by the police or security team may be carried out for the security of customers.

14. What transport options are available to get to the event?
Specific travel advice will be issued closer to the event, via  Southwark Presents Twitter feed.

Southwark Park is easily accessible by Underground, Overground, National Rail and bus from all directions. It is important to plan your journey beforehand and leave yourself enough time to arrive before the last entry time of 6.30pm, where queues at the gate are to be expected. Local routes will be very busy on the night. Go to Transport for London’s journey planner for detailed routes.

Underground – Bermondsey and Canada Water – Southwark Park is a 5-10 minute walk.
Overground – Canada Water and Surrey Quays – Southwark Park is a 5 minute walk.
National Rail – Bermondsey South – Southwark Park is a 15 minute walk.
Bus – The following routes all serve the area: 1, 47, 188, 199, 225, 381, C10, P12.
15. Will there be any parking available at the event?
We strongly advise people not to drive to the event as there will be no parking and many of the surrounding roads will have parking suspensions in place. Please use public transport, plan your journey beforehand and leave yourself enough time to arrive before the last entry time of 6.30pm. A Blue badge holders will be able to use the car park via the Hawkstone Road entrance to the park.

16. Can I get a ticket on the door?
Tickets are available to book in advance only. Over 20,000 tickets will be available to book from Monday 3 October. Due to previous attendance records of this event, high demand is expected and tickets are allocated on a first come, first served basis. We recommend booking your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

17. What happens if I arrive without a ticket?
You will not be granted access to the event without a valid ticket. There will be no entertainment, facilities or viewing areas within the surrounding area. We advise members of the public without a ticket to avoid travelling to help alleviate congestion within the area.

18. Can I bring pets?
Pets are not permitted at the event. There will be very large dense crowds that will not be suitable for animals.

19. Is there anything I can’t bring into the event?
Ticket holders are not permitted to bring any of the following items into the event:

20. Can I bring sparklers?
Sparklers are permitted at the event but are only to be used under the supervision of a sensible adult. All sparklers are to be extinguished in the sand and water bins provided throughout the site. Any antisocial behaviour may lead to being asked to leave the site.

21. Will there be a covered area if it rains?
There will be no covered areas within the event site. Remember it is winter, so wrap up warm, wear appropriate clothing and be prepared for wet weather.

22. What happens if the event is cancelled?
Any communication as a result of the event being cancelled will be communicated by Southwark Council. If you have booked your ticket online, you will be emailed or sent a text informing you of a cancellation. A press release will be distributed through the official channels. 23. What happens if I have booked a ticket and unable to go?

24. Will the ticketed event area have disabled access for viewing?
Yes. There will be a disabled viewing area located within a prime viewing location of the fireworks display.

25. What do I need to bring with me to gain entry to the event?
Tickets must be brought with you and presented at the gate to be scanned. Tickets must be valid and will be accepted in the following formats:

E-ticket printed at home
E-ticket on your mobile device
Printed ticket received in the post
Under no circumstances will anybody be allowed into the event area without a valid ticket.

26. Will there be a first aid point?
Yes. There will be a first aid within the event area if you require any medical attention. A medical company will be on hand to treat and advise you. Anyone requiring medical assistance should visit the designated on-site first aid points before calling 999, unless the condition is life-threatening.

27. Will I be able to leave the event site and re-enter at a later time?
No. A no re-entry policy will be in place on the night. You are reminded that the last entry time is strictly 6.30pm. No ticket holders will be allowed to enter after this time, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment.

30. Will there be food and drinks stalls?
Yes. There will be a great selection of food stalls offering food from around the world, as well as two bars offering a selection of beers, wines and spirits and mulled wine and cider.
