Southwark Libraries Winter Book Challenge

Southwark Libraries Winter Book Challenge runs from 10 December 2018 to 28 February 2019. It’s a great chance for children and young people to try new books and challenge themselves to read more.

Are you up to the challenge?

You can register to take part in any Southwark Library, Any book borrowed and read before the end of February will count towards the challenge, but we also have some recommendations for all ages.

There are three age categories for the Winter Book Challenge:

Ages four and under
We would like to encourage parents and carers to read to their child or children every day. On registering parents will be given a reading log to record the date and name of the books read to their child. Return the reading log to the library by 28 February to be entered into a prize draw to win a £20 Early Learning Centre voucher. Children in this age group will receive a certificate for taking part in the challenge.

Ages five to 11 years
Children in this age group are challenged to read ten books during the winter months. They will receive their reading log when they register and a sticker for each book they read. Children in this age group will also receive a certificate if they complete the challenge.

Ages 12 to 17 years
Young people in this age group are challenged to read 5 books during the winter months. Once registered they will receive their reading log. Those who read five books and report back to the library by 28 February 2019 will be entered into a prize draw to win Amazon vouchers.

All children and young people who take part in the challenge must:

  • be a member of a Southwark Library
  • make sure that all books read during the challenge are borrowed from a Southwark Library
  • register to take part in the challenge.
