Southwark Park Lantern and Light Festival – Alice In Winterland

Southwark Park Lantern and Light Festival (Alice in Winterland) is planned to take place at the north side of Southwark Park from 21st November 2018 to 6th January 2019, opening 7 days during the holiday period.

As the presentation shows, it will required to restrict access to some areas of Southwark Park. While the project has its supporters, many have objected to the closure of the park for a commercial project and other expressed their concerns including traffic, parking and antisocial behaviour.

The organisers has promised to sell tickets at discounted prices for local people among other benefits for the local community as shown on the different slides.

On Thursday, 20th September Southwark Council the licensing sub-committee will considers whether an application made by organiser for a premises licence is granted

Planning – Application Summary

18/AP/2766 | Temporary change of use of part of the public park and the of erection of a steel shield fence to surround the Southwark Park Lantern and Lights festival from 7th November until 11th January. The works would consist of; production porta cabins, Build and backstage marquees, heras fencing, crowd control and pedestrian barriers to control areas, Portable generators, PA system, lighting effects, Scaffolding towers for lights, wooden chalet style cabins for traders, track mat for pedestrian walkway and trakway for production vehicles. Venture into the illuminated Southwark Park as you follow in Alice’s famous footsteps. With thousands of twinkling lights sparkling in the night sky and over 35 handmade character lanterns, the story of Alice in Wonderland will be told like never before. 

Interactive Adventure
As you adventure from scene to scene, you’ll come up close to a 5 metre tall Alice, a 7 metre high Jabberwocky, get to grips with the iconic flamingo game, walk across the life-size chessboard, meet the Red Queen and much more. You’ll also get to drop down the rabbit hole, feel Alice’s tears as you walk through the illuminated forest, sit at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and much more. Perfect for all ages, this is a festive experience that you won’t be forgetting!

Christmas Market and Food and Drink
No Christmas festival would be complete without a Christmas market to set your jingle bells jingling! That’s why you’ll have access to a whole host of wooden-cabined Christmas stalls adorned with holly and ivy and displaying heaps of Christmas goodies to purchase. And once you’ve worked up an appetite from all of that shopping, you can settle down to something scrumptious from one of our food vendors or grab a cup of piping hot cocoa. It’s here that you’ll get to enjoy live musical entertainment; be prepared to sing-a-long to all your favourite festive classics! 

Santa’s Grotto 
There could only be one special guest of Winterland and it just had to be Santa Claus himself. Dressed in his much-loved red and white costume with that very handsome white beard, he’ll be ready and waiting to meet all those that are on the nice (and naughty) list. Which one will you find yourself on? 

This wonderfully magical experience brings the nostalgia of Alice in Wonderland to life through the exceptional lantern artwork whilst giving you the chance to interact and immerse yourself in this enchanting fantasy world.
