Wise16, Your Guide to Bermondsey & Rotherhithe

About WISE16

There is no doubt that Bermondsey and Rotherhithe are two great places to live and visit and there is so much about them to be discovered. The WISE16 idea was first thought back in 2009 as an early university project for a local website that will offer listings and highlight key places to visit in Rotherhithe being Bermondsey added by its proximity. Another reason was to notice that many residents, even after years of residing in this part of South London, were unaware of the cultural diversity and the number of events taking place in the area.

Choosing the name

The starting point for the WISE16 website was the postcode SE16 and its links to both, Rotherhithe and Bermondsey. Many wondered why Rotherhithe is mentioned first sometimes and not Bermondsey; the reason is that the core content of the website has always been about what’s on in the peninsula, nevetheless SE16 expands beyond the limits of Rotherhithe into Bermondsey.

Another question is about the name WISE16. It was the result of one of those google searches we all do at some point in our life, sort of naive attempt to find a unique name. So when the letter SE16 were typed in the google search and the expression ‘wise up to’ appeared on the screen, the name for the website was chosen. The term can be used to express someone becoming aware or informed about something; there was no doubt that was and is the intention of the website when it comes to what’s on in Rotherhithe and Bermondsey

The website is an ongoing organic project. We hope you like it!
