Quebec Quarter Show Home to Display Winning Artwork

L&Q is set to launch a new show home at Quebec Quarter, Canada Water, which will feature winning artwork by a local teenager, created at the recent Box Art exhibition. Held at the Printworks, one of London’s largest music and art venues, located close to the new housing development, over 150 people participated in the three week event which saw free daily screen printing classes throughout August. Led by artist Charlie Evaristo-Boyce, participants created their own artwork and screen prints on boxes, which were then stacked to create an immersive maze.

Encouraging people of all ages to get involved, community groups and local residents were invited to participate, with the L&Q development running a competition throughout to find the most impressive original artwork to display in their new show home. Chosen by Evaristo-Boyce, the winning print was created by Genette Belay, aged 14, a regular attendee at art sessions with charity Global Generation.

Jane Riddiford, Founding Director of Global Generation, comments; “It was great to see the young people getting the masks and the gloves on and have the opportunity to express themselves so freely – looking at them so focused and relaxed was fantastic. They enjoyed the afternoon, warmed up by the feeling of being part of a big scale project made by many hands and minds.”

With over 40 new residents and potential buyers attending the Box Art sessions during the summer holidays, L&Q were keen to keep the spirit of the exhibition going.

Lucy Chitty, Sales and Customer Services Director at L&Q, explains; “The Printworks exhibition was a great way to get further involved in the Canada Water community – and with our new show home launching, we felt it was the perfect opportunity to show off some of the amazing artwork that was created. The winning print has been expertly framed and will be hanging in our show home for all visitors to see – we hope this helps to inspire and encourage more young people to explore their creative side!”

Genette Belay explains; “It was amazing to be part of such an exhilarating project. I allowed myself to convey my emotions on such a simple object – a box! It gave me a sense of achievement, as the outcome was beyond my expectations.”
