Brunel Cafe Exhibition – Views from the Thames by Ed J Bucknall

Views from the Thames by Ed J Bucknall

The River Thames is my main source of inspiration, as it has been to generations of artists before me. I love the historic architecture and variety of the riverfront, the different views of the great landmarks and the constantly changing atmospheric skies. Reflections on the water always make me want to paint and draw.

‘Views from the Thames’ is the subject of this exhibition because it is such a key component of my art. My current work incorporates pieces of discarded marble found on the shore, which display their own history in the natural staining and patina created over time. Each of the resulting pieces is unique, with the patination dictating the artwork in its own original way.

I have been fortunate to have exhibited in several London galleries and have had several images appear in print publications. I am happy to consider commissions. In my day job I am an architect in a practice near London Bridge. I live near the river opposite Rotherhithe, and as well as sketching and painting for pleasure I enjoy kayaking on the Thames.

The exhibition of paintings by Ed J Bucknall will be at the Brunel Museum cafe gallery until the end of May, everyday 10am – 5pm

Ed J BucknallAbout Ed J Bucknall

Ed practices as an architect in London, whilst sketching and painting for pleasure. He uses a mixture of mediums on board and marble to create his unique and exciting art.

Ed finds slabs of marble along the Thames, so no two are alike. His current artwork on stone is inspired by the natural patina and wearing produced over time, which creates interesting layers, like ghosts from the past.

Ed has exhibited in several London galleries and some of his images have appeared in print publications. His professional training as an architect is evident in his drawings and paintings of buildings and landscapes and he enjoys stretching his talents with life drawing.

Commissions:

Ed has produced pictures for Sussex and East London pubs, London churches, Goodwood House and personal commissions and he has twice designed artwork for pint glasses used in fundraising, including an etched panoramic view of Southwark Cathedral. His work is admired in private collections throughout the UK.
