Sands Films Cinema Club, A community cinema experience in Rotherhithe

Looking for something a little different from the usual cinema experience? Sands Films Cinema Club has been screening films every Tuesday evening since 2005, with a programme that champions films that might otherwise be overlooked, forgotten or rarely shown.

Based in Rotherhithe, the Cinema Club has a cultural, educational and political focus rather than a commercial one. Its programme brings together films from different countries, periods and traditions, offering audiences the opportunity to discover films they may not encounter elsewhere.

The club also introduced virtual cinema in 2020, allowing audiences to watch selected films online.

A cinema club supported by its audience

There is no fixed ticket price for most screenings. Instead, audiences are invited to make a donation to support the Cinema Club and help cover the costs of putting on its programme, including film licences, performer fees and other expenses.

Regular supporters can also choose to make a small monthly contribution, providing the club with a more reliable source of income. Whether you’re a regular film fan or simply looking for something different to watch, Sands Films Cinema Club offers a chance to discover films beyond the mainstream.
