The Measuring of The Mayflower

Sunday 30th September | King Stairs Garden London SE16 | from 3pm | Free

The Measuring of the Mayflower is a family-friendly interactive event to explore how 133 people, plus provisions and livestock, fitted into the available space on board. From 3pm we will measure and mark out a footprint of the Mayflower – using what we know about the dimensions of the boat – and then load the passengers and livestock into the space. We need lots of people to help us reach the total number on board in 1620!

The imaginary boat will be blessed with flame – as was the custom to see off bad spirits and the event will feature songs from the London Sea Shanty Collective, a community choir who perform sea shanties and songs of the sea in celebration of the traditions from which they come.

Come and watch, or come and take part in this family friendly event – the youngest passenger on the Mayflower was born on board! You can read more about the Mayflower and our plans here.

Open to all, under 12s must be accompanied by an adult.
