War and Peace by the Armed Forces Art Society
War and Peace
War and Peace, a new exhibition by the Armed Forces Art Society. In their own words:
“We think that war and peace are different. Not for some. Some are still at war inside; some still carry the physical scars; some think they have forgotten war but it breaks back in, some have lost peace forever. Nothing has changed since this was written 700 years ago:
“they saw again all the evils they had ever sustained and all the friends and companions they had lost and all the misery that had befallen them…. and found no rest.” (The Mabinogion c.1350-1410)
Yet peace can be given and art is sometimes a way back. In revealing and recording the turning world, this show by members of the Armed Forces Art Society, all of whom have lived with war, also finds hope where it was not expected, light within the shadows and a way of saying what has been found again.”
