If you live in Southwark, are looking for work and are interested in a career in retail or hospitality, then come along to a taster day for the Bright Lights Starting Out In Retail and Hospitality programme on Wednesday 3rd of October at 10am in the CWM Hub (opposite Tesco) at Surrey Quays Shopping Centre.

The free course, which has been developed by British Land in collaboration with The Source Skills Academy, provides local residents who are interested in careers in retail or hospitality with the opportunity to build the skills they need. Over the course of the programme, participants undertake a combination of classroom teaching and work placements at businesses at the Shopping Centre.

The training programme will allow you to:

  • Gain practical skills and valuable on-the-job experience
  • Be coached by industry experts from The Source Skills Academy
  • Get qualifications in retail, customer service, and health and safety
  • Boost your confidence and update your CV
  • Have a personal mentor to support you for six months
  • After a successful run last year where 65% gained full-time work, the programme is back this Autumn to help you gain the skills, training and CV boost to kick-start a career in these industries. The programme works with local employers, and is timed to help you build the skills you need ahead of busy recruitment periods, so you have more chance of getting a job.

To get a flavour of the training programme, there will be a taster session on Wednesday 3rd October at 10am at the CWM Hub in Surrey Quays Shopping Centre. The course will then kick off on Monday the 8th of October and run until Friday the 9th of November, with a graduation celebration event taking place on the final day.
