Explorers Primary Schools Exhibition at CGP London

Explorers Primary Schools Exhibition at CGP London

2018 is the thirteenth year of partnership exhibition between Inspire 10 and CGP London. We are proud to maintain this longstanding creative commitment to our local community of school children across the borough of Lewisham and Southwark, especially during a period of great marginalisation of arts education across the UK

Each year CGP London exhibits a range of art works created to a theme, made by pupils aged 3-11 from local schools in The Inspire 10 Group. The theme this year is “Explorers”, and participating schools are Beecroft Garden, Deptford Park, St John The Baptist, St William of York and Torridon Junior.

EXPLORERS PRIMARY SCHOOLS EXHIBITION

Each school has the opportunity to bring the children to view the exhibition and discuss the work on display. The children review and critique pieces, talk about their favourite piece, giving reasons why. For many children the thrill of seeing their work on display is not only exciting but a confidence boost. During February half term the exhibition is open to the public and we run a series of drop-in workshops responding to the theme -parents, relatives an friend of the children are invited to visit the exhibition, so again the children’s sense of pride regarding their own work of art and items from their school can be shared and admired.

It is an essential part of the CGP ethos that people of all ages have opportunities to show work in our spaces, and are taken as seriously as the well known professional artists who also exhibit in CGP. With the intention of sparking the minds of the youngest generation, animating their imagination in a context that takes them seriously and giving our neighbouring school children a professional gallery exhibition, we hope to encourage them to feel the art world is something they can be part of too.

Learning Programme

Free drop-in family workshops for all ages during half-term, led by Flora Duley

Take Your Pencil On A Nolli-walk | 14th-18th February 2018 | Dilston Grove , 10am -12pm & 1-3pm each day

It’s half-term! Go on a funky walk through the park or become an Urban Planner by using simple mapping, drawing, collage and printing techniques. Led by artist Flora Duley and inspired by Nolli maps, you will explore the language of patterns and organise the places you inhabit. Map out your own new urban environment or new city, in a grid, linearly, organically, or some hybrid of these. Add as many homes, gateways, phone charging stations or trees!

Flora Duley is a Professional Artist living and working in London. She is currently coordinating a learning project for Peckham Platform’s off-site exhibition at Tate Exchange and Flat Time House and is the selected visual artist for Parasol Unit Foundation for Contemporary Art ‘Great Art Quest ‘ 2018. The workshops are inspired by our current exhibition EXPLORERS by children from five primary schools in South-East London.
