GLA approve regeneration design plans for Market Place The Blue

The Blue in Bermondsey has been a shopping destination for decades and Market Place, home to The Blue Market and other market events, is going to get a transformation with works set to begin October 2020.

The design proposals for the regeneration of the Market Place, developed by locally based design collective, Assemble and architects Hayatsu have been approved by the GLA design review panel.

The designs have been developed through a variety of activities held from June 2019 to May 2020 working in close collaboration with the partner groups, stakeholders and a wide-ranging public consultation period conducted from July to October 2019 which helped to shape the final designs.

The works centre on improvements to the Market Place and will also include better physical connections to the Blue, enhancements to some community buildings, more greening and makeovers for independent shops
