The official borough service for Remembrance Sunday will take place at Saint Saviour’s War Memorial, Borough High Street, at 10.45am, ahead of the nationwide two minute silence at 11am. It will be led by The Rev Canon Gilly Myers, Southwark Cathedral, who will be joined by other local clergy. Guests and members of the public are asked to assemble by 10.30am and the service will be followed by light refreshments in the adjacent Slug and Lettuce Public House.

Civic dignitaries will be led by The Worshipful Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Dora Dixon-Fyle MBE, and the Deputy Lieutenant, Mrs Jenny Bianco, representing Her Majesty The Queen.

Remembrance ceremonies will also take in Old Jamaica Road Memorial and other locations across Southwark

An important message about wreath laying at Remembrance and Armistice ceremonies this year:

The Civic Office will provide wreaths for The Mayor, The Representative Deputy Lieutenant, Southwark MPs, the Leader of the Council, the Leader of the majority opposition party, and the Chief Executive of Southwark Council.

All others who wish to lay wreaths will need to supply their own on the day. Please advise the Civic Office in advance of each ceremony if you intend to participate in wreath-laying so that you may be duly announced and called forward on the day. You can do so by calling 020 7525 7303 or emailing mayors.office@southwark.gov.uk

Your presence and participation will be much appreciated at this year’s ceremonies and The Worshipful Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Dora Dixon-Fyle MBE, looks forward to welcoming you.
