Booking is now open to audition for our next Community Company production Rise.

200 Londoners will take over an outdoor space to present a kaleidoscope of ideas, discussions and stories that explore our relationship with the environment. With music, movement and bicycles, Rise will explore the impact of living in a city where the temperature is rising.

The Old Vic Community Company are looking for people from all backgrounds and skillsets to take part in our latest production Rise both onstage as ensemble performers and behind the scenes.

Whether you’re a cabbie or cook, a teacher or technician, we are looking for you! No experience necessary. This opportunity is designed for community performers. Participants must be 16+

The Rise project will take place between Sat 11 June and Sun 28 Aug. This includes rehearsals and performance dates.

Performers

What is the Old Vic Community Company?
The Old Vic Community Company has been created to provide a platform for Londoners from every background to explore shared social issues and express themselves collectively as writers, performers and production-makers. Members can take part in our regular drop-in sessions, audition to be part of our inspiring community productions and benefit from our theatre bootcamps.

Can I apply to take part as a performer, backstage member and choir member?
Yes but if successful you will only be able to undertake one of those roles.

What am I auditioning for?
To join the Old Vic Community Company and take part in our next production Rise for Summer 2016. We also run regular workshops and Bootcamps for The Old Vic Community Company. This is a voluntary project that gives Londoners the chance to work as an ensemble and meet new people in their local communities.

Are we looking for professional actors?
No, this project is designed for volunteer community performers to join in as ensemble performers.

Do I need previous performance or backstage experience?
No, just be willing to get stuck in and try something new!

What are we looking for?
We are looking for members of the London community aged 16+ from all backgrounds who want to meet new people, develop exciting new skills and take part in a fun, exciting, creative project.

I am 15 but turn 16 soon. Can I still apply?
You can apply providing you will be 16 on the first day of rehearsals (11 June 2016).

What can I expect on arrival at the auditions?
On arrival you will be met by our welcoming team who will ensure you are ready to go for your audition and make sure you’re in the right place.

How long will the audition last?
The performer audition will be two hours. The choir audition will be half an hour and the backstage audition will be an hour and a half. We ask that people arrive 20 minutes before your allocated start time to complete the registration process.

What can I expect in my audition?
The performer audition will be a workshop that will feature a physical warmup, some movement exercises, improvisation and possibly some text work. You will be auditioning in a large group and will also work together in smaller groups. The choir audition will include vocal warm ups and group exercises. The backstage audition will feature group exercises and short interviews.

What is expected of people in the audition room?
To get involved, have fun, be yourself and be a team player.

Where are the auditions taking place?
Auditions are taking place at The Old Vic Workrooms in Bermondsey. The nearest tube station is Bermondsey which is on the Jubilee Line.

Do I need to prepare anything?
No, your audition is a group workshop audition and you will not be required to prepare anything before-hand.

Should I bring anything with me?
You should bring a completed copy of the application form and equal opportunities form which can be found at the top of this page. It is particularly important that you check the dates of the project and fill in your availability as accurately as possible. You should also bring a bottle of water and a snack. Try not to bring valuables along with you, any valuables are brought at your own risk.

What should I wear?
Make sure you’re wearing comfortable clothing and practical shoes such as trainers.

I’m running late, what should I do?
If you’re running late don’t worry, call 07444144273 and explain you’re running late, we may move you into an alternative slot if your session has already begun.

How do I cancel or change my audition slot?
If you need to cancel or change your audition slot please email the team on community@oldvictheatre.com or call 02079810908. If you can no longer make your audition please do let us know so we can make the slot available for somebody else.

What are the dates of the final project?
Our first company Bootcamp will be on Saturday 5th March.

The bulk of the project runs between Sat 11 June and Sun 28 Aug. This includes rehearsals and performance dates.

Rehearsals will largely take place on evenings and weekends.

Do I need to be available for all of these dates?

You will not be required for all of these dates, however you must be available for the meet and greet, performances dates and the majority of rehearsals. We are aware that you will have other commitments outside of this and, therefore, will only call you when you will be needed.

Do I need to take time off work?

We try to schedule these projects outside of traditional working hours so that you should not have to take time off. We will endeavour to let you know the rehearsal schedule two weeks in advance where possible so you can plan accordingly.

Would I be paid?
This is a voluntary community project for Londoners looking for something to do in their spare time, therefore it is not a paid opportunity.

I’ve had my audition what happens next?
If you are successful you must be able to attend a recall audition on the following days:

Performers: either Sat 6 Feb or Sun 7 Feb
Choir: Sun 28 Feb

The Old Vic Theatre will aim to be in touch within two weeks after your recall date however casting can sometimes take longer than planned so do bear with us while we get back to you.
