17 Mai Norwegian Constitution Day 2019 at Southwark Park

Southwark Park is the background to celebrate the Norwegian Constitution Day as in previous years with special events at the Norwegian Church in Albion Street in Rotherhithe prior to the main activities in the park.

17th May Norway Day

You should expect a good turnout; everyone is welcome to join happy Norwegians and all their friends all day long.



PROGRAM:

(Here in WISE16, we haven’t passed our proficiency level in Norwegian yet so expect a few mistakes)

The Norwegian School

08.45 – Official program at the school begins

09.00 – Raising of the Norwegian flag

09.30 – 17. May breakfast at the school

11.00 – Bus leaves for Southwark Park.

Sjømannskirken – The Norwegian Church

11.00 – Celebratory Service in the Norwegian Church. Ambassdor, minister, Vokalkompaniet and Regent Brass Band take part. 

12.15 – Kirkekaffe på St. Olav’s Square

12.45 – Regent Brass spiller utenfor kirken og leder an til parken.



Southwark Park

11.00 – Raising of the flag by leader of the 17th May committee, Kåre Sivertsen and Mattis Moviken. Southwark Park opens and all stalls are open.

Entrance from Jamaica Road (Christchurch Gate) and the roundabout by the Norwegain Church (Paradise Gate). Entrance is £3 per adult and £2 for children. Children under the age of 6 go free. This allows us to register number of visitors. 

Bouncy castles open at 11.00.

12.00 – Music by Swing It Dixieband

Touch Rugby matches played between 12.00 og 13.00

13.00 – Welcome and info by leader of the 17th May committee, Kåre Sivertsen

13.05 – We sing «Ja vi elsker», lead by singers from “Vokalkompaniet”

13.15 – 17th May Parade! 

The procession will be lead 17th May committee leader Kåre Sivertsen.

Order of the procession: 17th May committee with official guests, Regent Brass, DNS, The Norwegian Kindergarten, Den Norske Skolen i London (The Norwegian School); 1. year, 2. year, etc., Saturday school, other groups and societies.

14.00 – We all sing «Norge i rødt, hvitt og blått”, lead by singers from “Vokalkompaniet”

14.05 . Introduction of main speaker by ambassador Wegger Chr. Strømmen

14.10 – Main speech by Norwegian minister Jon Georg Dale.

14.30–16.00 – Traditional 17th May games by the Norwegian School

14.30 – Music by Vokalkompaniet.

15.00 – Music by the school choir – “Skolekoret” – from the Norwegian School

15.15 – Speech by Julian Jørung Fjeld, year 9, and Alina Leer, year 10, from the Norwegian School

15.20 – Speech by pupils from the Saturday school

15.30 – Music by Elisabeth Sletta Olsen and band

16.30 – Music by Swing It Dixieband

17.15 –  End of official programme

Evening program

Celebration dinner at Den Norske Klub – The Norwegian Club

Guest of honour: The Rt Worshipful The Lord Mayor of Westminster Councillor Ruth Bush

18.30 – Champagne reception

19.30 – Dinner by the chefs at “The In & Out”, Naval & Military Club
